    They went walking and carrying a handbasket. The children brought the groceries from this shop all the year round and only at Xmas did the "bean a tigh" go. There was a great "fáilte" for her and the husband. She was treated to wine and be to punch. Then they bought a big basket of groceries and got a sweet cake and a bottle of whiskey for a present.
    When they came home the kettle was sure to be boiling, the younger members of the family made sure of that for tea was then a luxury. The sweet cake was cut up and divided on the household and each member of the family got a slice with a cup of tea. The man of the house took a drop out of the bottle and all were in the best of humour.
    Perhaps the following day the woman and man of the house went to Carrigallen or Arva whichever town they went to during the year; both towns are at an equal distance from here. They usually went to those towns on the big market day this in Carrigallen is the Monday before Xmas and in Arva the Friday before Xmas. The reason of this was to sell their turkeys and geese to
