- Marriage begins in Shrove. The luckiest days to get married are Wednesdays and Saturdays. Many people make matches in the district. in olden times people used to go the the priests house to be married. About sixty years ago Mrs Creagh of Cappanahanna was married at the priest's house in Barringtons Bridge at twelve oclock at night. They had no carriages or motor cars in those days. It was on horse back they travelled. She sat on a pillow behind her husband. In olden times people used have only a small amount of money for a fortune. In some cases they even had'nt a marriage ring only to borrow one. In some places they would have a great wedding. All the neighbours would gather to the brides house and they would sing and dance until morning.
