- My Home District. (Fearmore)
My native district is Fearmore. It is situated in the townlnd Fearmore. Fearmore is in the parish of Rochfortbridge which is in the barony of Fertullagh. Fearmore means the place of the long grass.
There are three houses in Fearmore. None of the people in Fearmore is old enough to get the old age pension. There are three very respectable families in Fearmore namely the Dunnes the Gavins and the Cunninghams.
In former time there were more houses in Fearmore than at present. Now there is only one old ruins in it. some of my uncles who lived in our house before we got it emigrated to the United States.
The land is fairly good in the northrn part . Down in the southern portion the land is swampy. The Derry river flows between Derry and Fearmore.
The chief industry of fearmore is farming. The main stay of farming is cattle grazing and rearing foals. Michael Cunningham, Fearmore.
