- The principal road leads from Mullingar to Ballymahon and is called the Post road or locally the Walshestown Slanemore road. The road from Walshestown Chapel to Hopestown Cross-roads was made during the famine and is called Slanestown road.
The road from Walshestown Chapel to Ballard was made about one hundred years ago to accommodate the people going to Mass.
The road from Mulready's Cross to Hopestown Cross is the Walshestown South road.
The strand road leading from Mitchells to Frewin was made during the famine period.
