- On St Brigid's day a cross is made of rushes about a foot long collected a week before hand. It is hung up in the house and will protect the whole family from death, sickness and danger during the coming year. It is also hung in the cowhouse to bring luck to the cows.
On May day a green whitethorn is dressed with primroses and Cowslips and erected before the dwelling house. It is supposed to keep away sickness during the coming year.
It is said to be unlucky to bring a whitethorn in full bloom into a house.
