- Long ago people didn't wear shoes until they were between thirteen or fourteen years of age. and sometimes. There are accounts of people who never wore boots or shoes in their lives. In this district children usually go barefoot in the summer and parts of spring. The water is generally thrown out after washing the feet because it is believed that it is unlucky to keep it inside during the night. My father repairs our shoes and boots and also does repairs for a great many others round our place. There are no shoemakers in this district at present, but long ago there was up to three or four living(continues on next page)
