- There are nine forges in the Parish. One at Bolton's Cross and one at the Six crosses and one near a stream. All the rest in Listowel. Most of the forges are made of cement and roofed with corrugated iron and some are roofed with slate.
The smith's implements are, an anvil, a bellows, a hammer, a pincers. The smith shoes horses, ponies, asses and also shoes wheels of cars and repairs ploughs, harrows and gates.
There is a big handle in the bellows and it is worked up and down to blow the fire.- Collector
