- In the olden times they used to make cakes of oatmeal. They used not buy flour because it was too dear. They used to grind the oats at home. The people used to eat stirabout or potatoes for their breakfast They used never have bread except at Christmas.
During the 1916 rebellion there was a kind of flour like pollard it was black. It was very dear and no one could eat it. Some people had to pay three pounds for a bag of it and after all they used have to give it all to the pigs. Why there there was no flour the English would would not let it over to Ireland and some people used starve with the hunger.- Bailitheoir
