- There was a man called Denny the Souper going around with yellow meal and soup. The Soupers were trying to make Protestants of the people. Anyone that got food had to take a tract or pamphlet.
The district was very thickly populated before the Famine. There were several houses in Graigue and Ballymacaw, and there was a village near the strand called Knock. The people still point out sites of houses then occupied and now in ruins or vanished.- Collector
