  1. About an acre of land is sown under potatoes each year. My father prepares the ground. Potatoes are not sown in ridges they are sown in drills around here. At first the land is ploughed and harrowed then the drills are opened with a plough and then the manure is spread in the bottom of the drills then the potatoes are sown about a foot apart the drills are split with the plough and the potatoes are covered. A plough is used and not a spade. Wooden ploughs were used long ago. The spades are bought in shops. The potatoes are cut and one or two
