  1. There was a man in this district and he cured what is called the "Rose" or "Erysipeles". He cut a raw potato and drew his own blood and put it on the potato, and then rubbed that on the sore. When anyone took whooping cough the cure was, to go to a man and woman who were the same name before they were married and if they gave anything to eat such as bread and butter, that was a cure. A cure for mumps was putting the boy or girl three times under a donkey and right over it. Another cure for mumps was to put a horse's halter on
