  1. There was a man living in Negault, near Moville called Ned Kane. He was working in a mill which now belongs to the Mac Cauley brothers. He was staying up one night cleaning the mill stone. He had all the doors locked and he a candle with him.
About two o'clock in the night he got very sleepy and he lay down on the millstone to sleep. He put something on the candle so that when it would burn down so far it would crack and wake him up. When he awoke he found that something was holding him over the burning candle. He tried to get his rosary beads out of his pocket but he had great trouble in doing so.
One side of his beard was burned off when he was let go. He heard the rattle of chains in the upper storey of the mill and he knew that whatever had been holding him was away. He did not stay up at night in the mill after that.
