    In Ireland long ago there lived a King that had twelve sons.

    along and did the same thing to the bull and then met the stallion and he caught the old mare by the neck before the boy hit him with the rod. After the boy hit him with the rod he fell dead. Now said the old mare we have another thing to do. When we are about another mile I will fall dead and before we reach that mile I must tell you what to do. You will have to get a bottle in some house and near that house there is a well and you will [fill] your bottle with water and when I fall dead you take the saddle and bridle off me. Go the house and get the bottle and do what I told you. Then you will walk in and you will see a big crowd all around it. There are three barrels with boiling tar in them. There is a girl tied up in ropes and hundreds of men waiting there, they have to jump into these barrels of tar and none will come free before I can be free. The old mare fell dead and the boy went for the bottle of water and went to the place where the crowd was. He got there and he saw what happened the first man that went into the barrel of boiling tar and got burned. When that happened many of them, the rest of them would not chance it. The lad tork down his bridle and saddle and said I will go through it and free the lady. He took some of the water, jumped into the first barrel and came out again the same to the second and to the third. He walked back over and took the ropes off of the lady and set her free. Her father walked over and took him by the
