Once as a man was walking the road and while he was walking he got cracked.

    (continued from previous page)
one in and one out. He met a man with one eye. While he was saying this the man went over and hit a blow on him and told him to say up and down. He was going along again saying this until he met a lame man. This man was going up and down while he was walking, and he thought it was about himself and he went over and struck another blow on him. What will I say so says the the cracked man ye are all striking me. The man said to say that they never come up. He was going long saying it until he met a man sowing potatoes in a field. The man came out and hit a blow on him for the man thought he was praying that the potatoes would not come up and what will I say so says the cracked man. Nothing but mind yourself while you are safe says the man. The cracked man was going along again until he came to a Hotel. He knocked at the door and he was let in. The man at the Hotel asked what he wanted and the cracked man said mind yourself while you are safe. The man caught hold of him and shoved him out the door.
