    Before 1820 there were no roads - except the one that is now called the 'old road' from Drumshambo to Dowra.
    There were no bridges - no means of crossing except 'fords' and 'stepping stones'. Shortly after 1820 the present county road was made.
    In 1850 the road from the County road across the mountain to Ballinamore was made.
    In 1879 the Tullyvacan road was made.
    Before the roads were made the people used narrow lanes and paths.
    People travelled along the banks of rivers - the paths are still to be seen and are still used.
    There are some bog paths still in the district - there are numerous passes across the mountains and numerous recognised passes here and there through the country.
