  1. In General Humberts march in 1798 through Carrick-on-Shannon, he granted a favour to Minor St. George. In return the latter promised to give the former any request he wanted. He asked for a site for a Catholic Church. Being a Protestant, Minor St. George did not like the request, but however he kept his word and the Catholic Church is built on that site.
