There is a Mass bush on the land of my uncle John Hunt at "the Ford" in Portaneoght, CK on Shannon. Mass was said there in the penal days. He has, in the house, a quern, with a cross on it; it is said that it was used to grind the wheat for the Altar Bread which was used at the Mass Bush.
Opposite the Mass Bush, across the ford, on the other side of the Shannon in Co. Roscommon, there was in my mother's youth, a Rosary, left on the strand - large round stones. It is said that people gathered there to say the Rosary, when it was an offence to carry a beads.
