  1. I'm sorry for a man I know
    Whose heart is right and pure as snow
    A genial friend. the humble wight
    Whose lot is first from morn till night;
    He hankers not for wealth or fame
    Nor has the hopes for earthly gain.
    Millions perhaps, he's barely one
    Who led by duty, carries on.
    For he has little ones and wife
    Who seem content to share his life;
    The cast, he shoulders it, tho' poor,
    To keep the wolf cubs from the door.
    Except some difference in the name,
    The first and last are much the same
    Then buckle down to nothing loath.
    Just take them up and shuffle both
    The total find as per the cards;
    Perchance will interest some bards.
    A record old, yet good and true,
    One half of same for first, should do;
    No matter what some folks may say
    To final scenes the proper way
    'Tis what I do with deep content,
    Enjoying some liquid nourishment.
