  1. I
Tis just twelve months since last to you
Greetings I sent through Lady Di
The message then was "Kind and True",
    I don't intend to say "good-bye"
This year again I shall renew
My praise of one to bards unknown
And try to bring before their view,
The love to all you've ever shown.
    II
The poor to you have alway turned,
When "down and out" (no friend had they),
Assured that they would not be spurned,
Nor sent dejected on their way.
You've cheered their hearts, made smooth their path,
Their drooping spirits you have raised.
    No outward show you made of that;
Despite of self yours acts were praised.
    III
The first, my friend, is never shut,
Like your purse, to those who need it,
Or to one floundered in a "rut"
And knows not how to leave it,
Indeed your second is so large,
That you grieve for all in trouble
    And Gods charity, discharge,
While He prays you in the double.
