  1. I
    Much disappointment oft' we meet
    As on through life we go;
    This should not cause us to retreat,
    But nerve us meet the fox.
    Adversity our path will cross,
    Let's meet it with stout hearts,
    Nor show that we are at a loss
    To ward off hostile darts.
    II
    He who would yield to little ills
    Is lost beyond repair;
    But he whose heart with courage thrills
    Will never find despair.
    So do not ever give up hope,
    But keep it well in sight,
    And you with ev'rything can cope
    And conquer in the fight.
    III
    In solving this wee riddle,
    I know you will succeed.
    Your adroitness I can't diddle,
    It sweeps on at lightning speed,
    your quick to find the answer,
    As your record fully shows.
    Tho' you may not know it yourself, sir.
    your improving as time goes.
