    Since in boyhood I climbed them, longing to see
    Fair Killarney, Dingle and the Vale of Tralee.
    *
    The sublime panorama that burst on my sight
    Has been since to my soul a supernal delight,
    Now, wandering thro' Austral's wild bush and lea.
    My fancy doth fly to the Vale of Tralee.
    *
    In the morn of manhood, in summer's bright time,
    I stood on Slievemish - that mountain sublime,
    Before me Killarney, behind me the sea,
    Beneath me the beautiful Vale of Tralee.
    *
    Carrauntual and Mangerton, o'er fairy Louth Lene,
    The Mang's graceful windings through Castlemaine,
    Dunkerron, Glegariffe, and wild Keimaneigh,
    Enraptured my soul by the Vale of Tralee.
    *
    And methought that Creator ne'er meant that a slave
    Should breathe on those mountains or gaze on that wave,
    Or dwell on those dales, so delightful to see,
    Round Ardfert and Lixnaw, by the Vale of Tralee.

    I looked to the west where Cara's bright lake
    Shone like a diamond midst mountain and brake
    Iveragh's rugged mountains stretched on to the sea
