  1. An acre and a half of potatoes are grown in my farm, and sometimes the amount varies. Each farmer prepares the ground for his own crop. Sometimes the ground is manured before being turned up, and the potatoes are set in ridges and in drills. The ridges are made by ploughing five rows of sods into each ridge. Then these are hacked and the seed is stuck and manure is placed over them. The furrows are then ploughed and the earth is shoveled over the manure.
