    Buying and Selling
    In olden times, shops were not as common here as they are now, and people had to go long distances to make their purchases. The principal shops were in villages or near the churches, so it was mostly on Sunday that people used to buy and sell.
    People purchased very little then because nearly everything they needed was produced on the land. They used their own flour, butter, oatenmeal, meat, and candles.
