  1. Pat the Carman (Smith) of Garrymore, Ballinagh, Co Cavan, spent his life carting with a pair of horses from Ballinagh to and from Drogheda. Once when returning from Drogheda with 18 cwts of oats on his cart, a little child ran out on the street in Ballinagh and fell immediately before the wheel of the cart. Pat happened to be at the back of the cart at the time and seizing the shaft end, he raised the wheel sufficiently to allow it to pass over the child. Neither Pat nor the child were hurt in any way.
    The cart-road to Drogheda -Ballinagh - Kilnaleck - Ballyjamesduff - Virginia - Carnaross - Kells - Slane - Drogheda.
A cart-man started from Ballinagh on Monday morning with a load of eggs, butter etc and arrived back from Drogheda on Friday or Saturday.
