  1. It is said that if a person open a grave and takes a hand off a corpse and keeps it that he or she will have supernatural power. Catherine the Rock who lived in a little house in the corner of the Big Field which now belongs to Tom Gaffney, Carrickatobair had such a hand and she could steal anything from any house. She would come quietly about a house at night and push in the dead hand on a door or window. Immediately she did this everyone in the hosue fell asleep. Then Katherine went in and took what she pleased.
    A certain man challenged her that she'd steal nothing from him. She took up the challenge and said she'd be at his house that night
