- In olden times, when there were no banks, the people, who had treasures, had to bury them. The reason of this, was that bands of robbers, would go round, and raid houses in which, they supposed the treasure to be. Many old people tell us that these treasures are buried still and that they are guarded by dogs and other animals.
Before the O'Donnells left Donegal, it is believed, that they buried some of their treasures. In a lake called Belshade, which is situated in the townland of Townawilly and is about two miles distant from Lough Eske, it is supposed, that some of the treasure is buried. It is said to be buried on a little island, which is in the centre of the lake. On this (lake) island grass grows very plentifully.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
