  1. In the town land of Rathgrumley (Athy) on the lands of my father, there stands a rath. It is a square rath containing many bushes and a bank all round. About five yards from the south side of the Rath there is a black thorn tree standing alone.
It is said that there is a lot of money under a flag rock under the tree, and there is an eagle and a black cat minding the money. Long ago a man named Tom Moore dug down for the money. He came to the flag. When he lifted it, he was attacked by the eagle and cat. But Tom knew no more about it until he woke up the next day in the next field. The Rath of Rathgrumley is only a quarter of a mile west of the Moat of Ardscull. My father told me this story.
