His wife was greatly surprised when she saw him coming in himself and the child. She thought that he was dead for she could get no account of him although she searched the whole country for miles around. But what she wondered mostly was the child in his arms for she had her own child in the cradle inside. Tom went in with the child anyway and when he saw the other child in the cradle he knew well enough that it was a fairy changeling that was in it, and he told his wife so.
