  1. Old Schools
    There was a hedge school where the Mc Loughlins are living in Newfridge. The man that taught there was John Kemple of Bonnemara. He also taught where the Tanells live. There was another hedge-school in Loughinroe and there was another hedge-school where John Lawless of Ballyleen. It was Tom Kelly of Bonnemara that taught in these schools. The pupils used to be seated on stones and all of them that would not have place inside would be outside. They used to make pens with quills and they used to write on paper. When they would be doing sums they would have a slate and slate pencil
