  1. The following is a copy of a letter which the teacher got from Professor A. Maher, National Museum Kildare Street, Dublin., with reference to coins found by Mr. Eugene McDonagh Ballifeen, Tynagh in a very old wide bushy ditch which he was knocking.
    Dear Sir,
The two coins which you sent up are Anglo-Saxon pennies of King Edward II or III(the coins of these two kings are very difficult to separate) and they have been coined in the London mint. Their commercial vale is very small, but the find is strictly speaking, a matter of treasure trove. If we can get the complete lot of 22 coins, an adequate amount of compensation can be paid to the finder or owner. If the museum cannot get the complete lot we would not be interested in it and the two coins would be returned through your kind services,
    I am,
    Yours faithfully,
    O'Maher.
