    on and she did in court as her lawyer instructed her, with the result that the judge ordered the police to remover her out of court, that she was insane, and that the men who had any dealings with such a woman should be prosecuted.
    The lawyer followed her out of court and demanded his ten pounds agreed to with her, seeing she had seventeen pounds and the calf. She kept whistling the tune repeatedly with more vigour than she had done in court. The lawyer left her without receiving any payment, and she went home.
    This is how the saying arose that when people do not play their lawful debts you say "Let them whistle for it."
