    the seed are put in the drills, they are saddle-harrowed and moulded. When the stalks are about a foot over the drills the leaves are sprayed with bluestone and soda to protect them from Blight.
    The potatoes are dug out with a machine called a "Potato Digger". The digger throws them out to one side of the drill and the servants pick them in bags or make pits. Some farmers store their potatoes in lofts or potato store houses.
    The local names of potatoes that are grown best in our district are : - Kerr pinks, May Queens and Duke of York.
