- In the old times people had no ploughs only dig the ground with a spade.
Later on wooden ploughs were invented. They were made of wood with an iron sock to dig the earth. The first wooden plough in this district was owned by a farmer in Derrygrea near the village of Drimoleague. They were very costly because they were easily broken whenever they struck against a big stone or rock in the ground.
Later on the iron plough was invented and a few farmers were able to buy them. Sometimes one was bought by all the farmers in the one townland.
