  1. The townland of Shountellig is in the Parish of Schull and in the barony of West Carbery. It falls into two divisions being Shountellig South and Shountellig North which are divided by Shountellig Hill. There are sixty people in Shountellig, twenty one in South Shountellig and the remainder in North Shountellig
    People
    There are fifteen families five of which are Protestant. There are three Levis families one Hegarty and one Capithorne who are Protestants, that is eighteen Protestants in all.

    The houses are all slate-roofed except two in South Shountellig which are roofed with iron and
