- During the years called the "black 46 and 47" most of the people of this district died of hunger and fever. The population was much larger then than now as a large family occupied about five acres of land while many large families had not a sod of ground only what was near their [?]. Many large families lived on the southern side of Cahiroleckna Hil, on Libeen Hill and on the norther side of Shountellig Hill. These were very poor and lived entirely on the charity of their richer neighbours. Those who had land gave those who hadn't about a half an-acre(continues on next page)
