There is only one person who is over seventy in Shountellig at present - as one man died lately. This one is my Grandmother who knows a little Irish. She can speak Irish fairly well but she cannot read or write Irish and any stories told by her are told in English. She told me that her father and mother spoke nearly always in Irish and they always said their prayers in Irish.
