    of land each year on which to plant potatoes and they worked for the person who gave them the land - as payment.
    On account of this the famine caused great hacvoc in the district. When the potatoes failed they had no seed for the following year and my grandmother told me that when they could not afford to plant the potatoes they took out the eye of the potato with as little as possible of the potato - with a quill. Although they grew again the following year the blight came on them again and the people were in a worse condition the following year.
