- The potato was the chief food of the people of this locality in past years. In some houses the people used oats and wheat instead and in the town land of Rathravane a man distributed oatmeal from which the townland derived its name.
Stampy The potatoes were first boiled and peeled and then they were grated finely with a home made grater. Brown flour and a little soda was then mixed through the potatoes and the cake was then baked. This was the only meal of bread the people of this locality had and they had a drink of sour butter(continues on next page)- Collector
