- About sixty years ago most people in this district went bare-footed. Clogs with wooden soles were worn up to about thirty years ago. These boots were very uncomfortable and people used wear a 'sop' of hay in them or tie rags around their feet to prevent them from becoming sore. Long ago people used to throw out the water in which they had washed their feet before retiring in case the fairies would play tricks on it during the night.Common local saying - "Every old show finds an old stocking".
