- In olden times the game known as Gaelic football was played in every parish. It did not follow rules and was therefore very rough. There was no fixed number of men on each side, but the players were matched before the game started. The game was usually between parishes or townlands. The players met on the border of the parish or townland. The ball was thrown in the air, and victory was theirs who could bring the ball home.
