- Once upon a time an old woman who was very poor and wore ragged clothes. One day when the cottage was rattling and shaking with the wind and the poor woman was nearly perished with the cold and dying with hunger a stranger came to the door with a goose under his arm. "Here" he said "take this goose". The old woman was very surprised. The goose laid a golden egg and the woman ran off to tell the neighbours her good fortune. The egg was the first of many golden eggs which the goose laid and the old woman grew rich beyond her wildest dreams. She lived in such style that the people of the village treated her with great respect. She had a carriage with four horses to drive(continues on next page)
