  1. Marriages most frequently take place locally before Lent.
    The months that are thought unlucky for marriages are May and November. The days that are thought unlucky for marriages are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
    On Shrove Tuesday when the pancakes are being made there is a ring put in them and whoever gets the ring is supposed to be married before the year is out.
    Matches are made in the locality among the gentry.
    Money is given most frequently as dowry in this locality.
    Long ago stock and goods used to be given.
    The customs that are observed on a marriage day are the throwing of rice and confette when the bride and bridegroom are leaving the church. It is a local custom also for the bridegroom to be in the church about five minutes before the bride.
