I often climbed the Hill of Ward,
Some thirty years ago,

While fairest flowers do spring

I had seen the castle of Moyrath
Shine o'er the plains below
Since built by Sir Jeffrey Morris's art.
Eight centuries ago

And fair Rathcormack raised its head
O'er many a sylvan dale
Where Lord Moore bled and monks had fled
From the tactics of O'Neill.

And near at hand a gentle stream
Flows on to join the Boyne
Where ofttimes I did sit and dream
When happy hours were mine
