- Bread was eaten in olden times. The usual kinds of bread used were boxty bread, potato bread, oaten bread, and wheaten bread.
There was a cross put on top of the cake. It was for good luck. The bread was usually cooked on a griddle
All the oaten bread, and potatoes mixed with oaten meal, were baked before the fire standing against two turf.
