  1. One of the largest hauls of salmon ever captured on the Slaney was caught in May 1917 by Thomas Butler.
    He caught 62 in a haul and he lived at Scurlocksbush Oylegate. He caught this large haul at Motabeg. At an average each salmon weighed about 12 lbs. That same morning he captured 8 more
    At that time they were worth 2/6 per lb. Some years before that a man named Michael Roche of Killurin got 44 in a haul at Pouldarraig.
    These were the most notable catches of salmon on the Slaney for the last 30 years.
