  1. The houses of former times were mudwalled cabins, and wooden houses, the roofs of the wooden houses were made of wood, the roofs of the mudwalled cabins were made of mud.
    The houses used to have an old oak chest in the kitchen. The front of the chimney was weaved with sallies and plastered with clay. Rush candles used to light the old houses. They used to be made locally. Half doors were and are still common. The old floors were made of clay.
