- In my townland of Lsuakedherua, on a long winter evening we often amuse ourselves by proposing riddles or in trying to give the correct answers to those asked by friends who come to Ceilio.
Here is a collection I have gathered:
1) "As I went out on yonder gap I met my uncle Day.
"He had a wooden nose and iron toes.
"Upon my word he would frighten crows. ?
2) "What is that which is neither within or without?
3)"As I went out in yonder gap I saw a great wonder
"Four and twnety blackberries tearing the world asunder
5) "Back is bare: Bordy is thin
"The master makes it roar and sing
6) "Long-legged father: big body mother!
"Three dirty children one after another
7) "Head like a thimble; tail like a nat :
"You may guess for ever but you will not guess that
8) "As round as an apple so deep as a cup.
All the men in Darry would not fill it up.
9)" Opens like a farm door: shuts like a trap.
You may guess forever but you will not guess that
10) My father gave me seeds to sow: the seeds were black and the ground was white ?- Collector
