- It is generally believed that when the sky is red at sunset, we shall have good weather. When there are many very bright stars we expect frost. When there is a ring round the moon or it is covered by a cloud, it is going to rain. Western and southerly winds bring rain. To see sheep going to the hollows and to see swallows fly low are signs of rain. A cat is seen sitting with her back towards the fire when rain is near. When a blue blaze is seen in the fire, it is the sign of storm.
