Tom and his wife then lived happy enough for a while, the fairies never troubled him after that. That was a good lesson for Tom. He took the pledge again and swore that he would never break it, but misfortune was in store for him. About a year afterwards he was at a fair and he sold six or seven cattle and when he was coming home he went into a shop on the side of the road to get something that he forgot.
