- The farm-houses of long ago were smaller than they are now. These houses were made of rough stone and clay and clay was used as mortar.
Mostly all these houses were thatched. Some were thatched with straw and others with rushes and needs.
Many of these houses had beds in the kitchens. These beds were placed in the side-wall beyond the fire. These beds were called "out-shots."
The front of the chimneys were made of clay and wattles.
The windows of houses were smaller than they are now.Twelves panes at that time would be only the size of one pane now.
The floors were made of clay and stones, the streets now be better than the floors at that time.
